Reading Chinese Metaphysics as a Researcher, Not a Master

No secret lineage. No guaranteed outcomes. Just careful reading, tested tools, and honest uncertainty.

I Came to BaZi Through Questions

I came to BaZi the way many overseas Chinese do — not through a temple or a family master, but through questions.

Why do I keep hitting the same career wall? Why does this house feel wrong even though it looks right? Why did my parents choose my name the way they did?

The more I read, the more I realized that Chinese metaphysics is not one unified system. It is a 2,000-year argument about time, space, character, and luck — recorded in texts that disagree with each other, revised by generations of scholars, and often simplified beyond recognition online.

I started Daoist Arts to do the reading myself.

Who I Am

My name is Wenshu Lin. I am not a feng shui master, not a fortune-teller, and not part of any claimed lineage.

What I am is a close reader of classical Chinese texts, with training in analytical methods. My work is to go back to the source — the Di Tian Sui, the Qiong Tong Bao Jian, Guo Pu's Zang Shu, the I Ching — and ask: what do these texts actually say, where do they disagree, and what can we honestly claim today?

Every article and every tool on this site comes from that process.

Three Rules I Follow

  • Primary sources first. If a claim cannot be traced to a named classical text or school, I say so.
  • Compare schools, don't hide disagreement. BaZi has competing schools. Feng Shui has form and compass traditions. I present the debate, not a fake consensus.
  • Test with tools. The free calculators on this site are built from the same calendar systems I write about. If the tool and the text disagree, I fix the tool or explain why.

You can read the full method on the Methodology page.

What This Site Is Not

This site is not a place to get your fortune told.

I do not promise wealth, marriage, or career breakthroughs. I do not claim to know your future. What I offer is a framework — old, complex, and sometimes contradictory — for thinking about yourself, your timing, and your environment with more clarity.

If you are looking for certainty, you will not find it here. If you are looking for a thoughtful, text-based conversation with the tradition, you might.

Free Tools vs Paid Readings

The free tools on this site calculate. They show you the patterns the system produces.

The paid readings interpret. I read your chart or space in context, explain what the patterns suggest, and tell you where the system is confident and where it is not.

Both use the same classical sources. The difference is depth, not authenticity.

How to Start

If you are new here, start wherever your question is:

A note on responsibility. Everything published here is for educational and cultural study. It is not medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice. Chinese metaphysics offers perspective, not proof. Read critically.
